Firefox (ver 12.0) Freeware Windows 2000 comes integrated with the Internet Explorer browser. Unfortunately, the last stable version of I.E. that will work on Win2k is version 6.x, which no longer supports some of the newest features on modern websites. One modern alternative (which has the most support from 3rd party software vendors and webmasters) is Firefox. It is suggested therefore that Firefox be installed and used instead of I.E.. NOTE: You must still keep I.E. 6.x on you computer, as the Microsoft Updates website will ONLY be accessable to users who are browsing with Internet Explorer. SPECIAL NOTE: Starting with Firefox version 3.6, you will need at least Java version 6 Update 10 and above to run Java applications in your browser. PLEASE NOTE: This is the last Win2k version of Firefox. CAUTION: During the browser wars, a bug appeared which still remains in all of the current popular browsers, including Firefox. Unlike other file download protocols (such as FTP), Firefox ignores the File Modification stamp reported by the Server when downloading a file, and inappropriately replaces the modification stamp with the systems current time/date. The only limited workaround that will save the files true modification stamp is to "view" the file with a Firefox browser viewer plugin (suitable for document files, but not executable files), and then "save" the file from inside the viewer.
