AltaVista Personal Search 97 is an indexer that indexes  
words in text documents on your local PC (127.0.0.1), and 
saves the finds into a search database (similar to WAIS).  
The program can be configured as to which files to index 
on your local PC, and how often it should index again. 

The database is queried from a html page in your browser, 
and the search responses are links (similar to a Google 
search).  The search responses are returned very quickly.  
The links contain a brief summary of the content, and 
clicking on the link opens a document viewing window.  

AltaVista Personal Search 97 is especially useful for 
searching local plain text email and newsgroup files.
