MySQL is currently the most popular open source database.  
MySQL is often used as a component of the so called "LAMP" 
Web server stacks (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP/Perl/Python).  
MySQL is also compatible with PeerTracker.  

A Windows 32-bit version of LAMP (WAMP) could be built from: 
Windows 2000 pro - Abyss Web Server X1 - MySQL v5 - PHP v5.  


NOTE: This is the last Windows 2000 compatible version.

Although MySQL includes command line tools, it is considerably 
more convenient to examine the database through a GUI.  

MySQL GUI Tools are the precursor to the new MySQL Workbench. 
This is the last version released before they switched.  The 
new MySQL Workbench will NOT work under Windows 2000, due to  
its dependency on .NET 4.5 and Visual C++ 2015.
